In Kavrepalanchok, 182 people have died in road accidents over the past five years, according to the District Traffic Police Office.
From the fiscal year 2077/78 to 2081/82, there were 807 accidents in the district. Data shows that in 2079/80, 50 people died in 156 accidents, and in 2078/79, 43 people died in 149 accidents. In 2080/81, there were 181 accidents with 33 deaths, in 2077/78 there were 178 accidents with 31 deaths, and in 2081/82, 143 accidents caused 25 deaths.
Traffic Police Chief Inspector Sunil Dhanju said accidents mainly happen due to three reasons: human error, mechanical failure, and road or environmental conditions. He noted that human mistakes are the leading cause, followed by mechanical problems and poor road conditions.
He added that road accident numbers in Kavre have decreased because drivers and passengers are becoming more aware of traffic rules and vehicle maintenance, and because traffic pressure is lower due to ongoing construction on the Araniko Highway. Better road infrastructure has also contributed to the drop.
The traffic office has been running awareness programs for passengers, drivers, and students, along with mechanical checks, to reduce accidents and casualties.
