President Ramchandra Paudel has appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the new Prime Minister under Article 61 of the Constitution. Until now, all governments in Nepal were formed according to Article 76 of the Constitution.

It states that the President is the head of state and carries out duties according to the Constitution and federal laws. The article also says the President must promote national unity and protect the Constitution.
