Tottenham Sack Coach Ange Postecoglou on His 2-Year Anniversary

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has sacked head coach Ange Postecoglou. He was removed from his role exactly two years after his appointment, on June 6.

Postecoglou helped Tottenham win their first major trophy in 17 years. Just two weeks ago, the team won the UEFA Europa League by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final. This was Tottenham’s first European trophy in 41 years, and their first title of any kind since 2008.

Despite the Europa League success, Tottenham struggled badly in the Premier League. The team lost 22 out of 38 matches, finishing with just 38 points in 17th place — the worst season in their Premier League history.

Postecoglou had joined from Celtic two years ago and had signed a four-year contract, but he now leaves halfway through the deal.

Reports suggest Brentford manager Thomas Frank could be a candidate to replace him. Although he has a release clause in his contract, formal talks with Brentford have not yet started.
