Heavy rain in eastern hill and Tarai districts has increased the water flow in the Saptakoshi River through the Koshi Barrage.
According to Armed Police Force SP Nirmal Thapa, the water flow at the barrage was measured at 174,494 cusecs per second on Monday night.
As the flow continues to rise, 19 out of the 56 gates, including 52 main gates and 4 canal gates, have been opened. A red light has also been switched on as a danger signal.
